NEXERA acquires Uninet’s infrastructure

29-07-2020

Nexera, the first, only wholesale telecommunications operator in Poland that on a large scale is developing a high-capacity fibre-optic access network, purchased the fibre-optic infrastructure from Uninet, an operator in the Świętokrzyskie Region. The transaction will enable both parties to develop in key business areas. Nexera will expand its broadband infrastructure and Uninet will focus on retail sales by offering services based on Nexera’s infrastructure.

On 28 July, Nexera purchased from Uninet a fibre-optic network located in the Świętokrzyskie voivodship – in Skarżysko Kamienna, Starachowice and neighbouring towns. As a result of the agreement signed, Nexera’s infrastructure has been extended by more than 200 kilometres of fibre-optic network, which range covers nearly 18,000 households. Importantly, existing subscribers will still be able to use the telecommunications services provided by Uninet.

“We are currently implementing a project of building a fibre-optic access network under the Operational Programme Digital Poland, which is important for Poland, but our ambitions go further. We are not only building a modern fibre-optic access network with the use of public funds, but we are also expanding its reach with our own resources. Nexera’s model of operation as a wholesale operator gives unprecedented freedom of choice from the many offers of internet providers to everyone within our network. We want to provide this opportunity to up to 1 million households in the Nexera Regions. We will pursue this objective not only through the construction of a network (670 thousand households by the end of 2022) but also through the acquisition and consolidation of existing infrastructure. Today’s first acquisition is a confirmation of the consistent implementation of this strategy and an important step that brings us, as a wholesale fibre-optic network operator, closer to the target of 1 million households within our network coverage” says Jacek Wiśniewski, President of the Nexera Management Board.

The transaction was carried out in a sales model that benefits both sides, which is innovative on the market. Nexera has expanded its network infrastructure and Uninet will be able to focus on developing retail sales as its leading business area.

“The agreement is attractive to both parties. Uninet has, on the one hand, gained favourable conditions for the sale of network assets and, on the other, has the opportunity to continue and develop its telecommunications business in cooperation with a reliable partner and an important external infrastructure provider, which gives us new business opportunities and benefits. Uninet represents 11 years of experience and participation in the life of the region, not only in the field of telecommunications services. The trust of our subscribers and consistency in raising standards allowed us to get to the place where, together with Nexera, we take another important step towards the technological development of the Świętokrzyskie Region.” says Michał Wiśniewski, President of Uninet.

Internet in the Świętokrzyskie Region

According to the results of the #RegionyNexery2020 study, Internet usage in the Świętokrzyskie Region is steadily increasing. As a result, residents’ expectations of the speed and quality of the connection are also rising. As the Nexera study shows, more than 63% of the those surveyed in Świętokrzyskie Region are satisfied with their connection, but more than half (51%) of Internet users at home are considering increasing their speed. This is an increase of 22 pp compared to the previous year. At present, 54% of the population declares that fibre-optics are available in their region and 46% of them use fibre-optics.
