2nd Wholesale Operators' Conference behind us

14-04-2023

The 2nd Wholesale Operators Conference was held on 13 April. The event, organised under the aegis of the Open Allies Foundation, brought together telecommunications operators, key industry decision-makers, representatives of the chambers of telecommunications, the regulator and government authorities. The conference focused on key development directions, market challenges and the need to define the identity of the wholesale operator.

The assembled experts emphasised the importance of modern fibre-optic infrastructure for the development of Poland. Open fibre networks were presented as a market model focused on competitiveness, diversity of services and efficient use of resources. The optimisation of investment costs and the benefits of the wholesale model were also debated.

Jacek Wisniewski, CEO of NEXERA, noted: "An important element in the development of high-speed internet in Poland is the cooperation between wholesale operators and user operators, as well as innovation and optimisation of processes in communication between them. The dynamic development of broadband infrastructure also includes the removal of administrative barriers, the development of facilitations in the investment process and the improvement of cooperation with local government units".

Benoît Felten of Plum Consulting presented the results of a study on strategies for the development and propagation of FTTH solutions in Europe. The analysis covered 8 major European markets and identified key challenges, such as the discrepancy between fibre network coverage and take-up rates. The Open Allies Foundation also came up with a proposal to redefine a wholesale operator as MULTI-ŚWIATŁOWÓD (multi-fibre) infrastructure provider. The new definition aims to reinforce identity among customers, raise awareness of the benefits to end customers and increase network saturation levels.

The Wholesale Operators' Conference is an important industry body offering a discussion on market developments. It is an opportunity to exchange views and experiences and to present the opinions of experts and representatives of the telecommunications industry. See you next year!
